Motorcycle Repair: Honda 2002 ACE Carburetor, honda vt750, carburetor issues

Question
I own a 2002 Honda VT750 ACE.  Very low miles and last year hardly any.  This past fall I replaced the battery but the bike was dormant from July till this past two weeks.  I neglected to winterize it with gas stabilizer.  This spring, new battery, new plugs, new air filter and while it starts it will dies if I give it any gas.  At first it ran for 10 minutes till it warmed up, and when the choke adjusted it would die.  I emptied most of the old gas, and put in dry gas, still the same problem but it will run at low idle for indefinitely but only at very low speeds.  No tachometer so I can’t say exactly what speed.  I’m mechanically competent but a novice at MC repairs.  Looking around for answers I’ve explored web sites about carburetor issues but what I keep reading is that for my bike (fairly maintenance free and still new-ish) the problem is more likely gas varnishing the fuel system.   Does this sound like the issue?  I can verify I have battery juice, spark and air, there’s fuel but it’s flow appears restricted.

Is there an de-gumming additive I can try before I have to take it apart?  Like I said it will run indefinitely.  Does that risk anything?

Answer
Sounds like the high speed jet is clogged. The best thing to do is make you a bowl with a hose that will fit the carb and pour yamaha carb dip so that it fills up the carb or take the carb off and submerge it. let it set over night and reassemble. It will smoke and sputter for a minute or two and then it should clean out. The part number for the dip is ACC-CARBC-LE-NR.FOLLOW DIRECTIONS FOR MIXTURE ON THE BOTTLE.
