Motorcycle Repair: slipping clutch, friction modifiers, suzuki gsxr

Question
Hi Wayne I have a 94 Suzuki gsxr wr 1100 with 5,400 miles. I have not had it long. The problem is when it is cold it shifts out fine but soon as it warms up it starts slipping in all gears bad. I changed the oil to see what it looked like it appears to have never been changed it was very black but not alot of metal shavings on the magnetic end of the bolt. Is there anything eles that could cause this? I am very mechanically inclined and will do the job myself if this is the case. Is there any info besides service manual which I don't have that I could use as a guide while performing this task? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Charles,

the clutch sounds like it may need
checking. These bikes used a diaphragm
type clutch spring rather than the
usual coil springs. The friction
plates may be worn thin or heat
may have weakened the clutch spring.

I suspect the clutch needs rebuilding.
Have you tried changing the oil?
Sometimes people use additives
or car oil which has friction modifiers.
It is better to use a good motorcycle oil.

Send me a followup with your email
and I will forward any info I have.
