Motorcycle Repair: 3-wheeler, honda oem, clutch adjustment

Question
Hi I own an 85 honda 110 atc and I am having problems with the clutch/transmission. Basicly I can be driving and in gear and the machine will come to a dead stop for no reason and it will go into gear again if you shift up or down but it grinds when u do. It will do the same thing if you try to shift up or down when its going fine but not all of the time. You dont have to give me a perfect answer I just need to get a general idea as to what the problem might be. I think its the clutch do u agree?  Thank You

Answer
Tyler,

it sounds like the clutch plates may
need replacing. It is probably
holding some of the time.
It might possibly be something
loose on the shifting mechanism as well.

The clutch is under the right engine cover,
and also the clutch adjustment locknut
and screw is on the right side.

To adjust, loosen the locknut,
turn the screw clockwise 1 turn.
Turn it back counterclockwise
until you feel some slight resistance and then
turn it clockwise about a 1/8 turn
and lock it there.

You might have to remove the clutch cover
and check for any loose shifter parts
like the screw and plate on the end of the
shift drum or any broken springs.

Go to this webpage and look under "clutch"
etc to see what it all looks like:
