Motorcycle Repair: 1993 ultra classic, vacuum line, timing light

Question
I have a '93 Ultra Classic w/ 25k miles that is running like crap. We moved here from Colorado a few months ago and I started riding to work (60 mi roundtrip) about a month ago. Anyhow, plugs look great, I rebuilt the carb, checked the fuel lines and petcock...all is fine. When I back out the mixture screw (about 3 - 3.5 turns) & reset the idle it runs fine for a bit then falls on its face again shortly thereafter. The vacuum line seems fine.I don't have a timing light but I took it a few degrees each way to see if it'd make any difference...nothing. It just won't idle out smoothly...if you hold throttle steady at say 3k rpm's it bounces all over the place. Any ideas at all? Thanks!!!

Answer
Check your intake for a leak. You can start the bike and let it warm up. Spray a little carb cleaner around the intake. If the RPMs go up you have a leak. Also, check your connections at the head for the exhsust for leaks. If they are ok I would look at the ignition. It might be breaking down
Good luck and happy riding
