Motorcycle Repair: charging system, rectifier unit, regulator rectifier

Question
Hello, I have a 1982 Honda CX500C and for the past year I have had to keep charging my battery to be able to ride it. I have tested the output of the alt. for a ac voltage but I'm not sure just what that should be and have test the two parts just under the seat (don't remember name of) with my OHM-meter on diode test and found that it's going both ways?? I have a repair manual but after moving it's packed away. Can you give me any help on fixing this so I can ride it and not have it just sitting. With cost of gas I need it on the road ASAP. Thank you for any help.

Answer
Craig,

Unplug it's connector and check the stator output.
Approx 60 volts AC on any stator wire with the meter set on
"AC" voltage is good. Any of the three yellow wires should read the same.
The yellow wires should not have any connection to ground.
If this seem correct you likely need
a regulator/rectifier unit.
Also the battery should be checked.
