Motorcycle Repair: cam and jetting carb, air mixture, stock cam


Question
i have a 2006 fxst 88"b softail carb model,stock with ness big sucker air cleaner, v/h pipes,carb has been modified with a stock 88-89 sportster needle,and air mixture turned out 2 turns,with a 45 intermedit jet and a 165 main jet///runs prefect with stock cam,if i go to a 204 s/e cam,with the set up i have now,what jets do u think i will need with the bigger cam,plz help //Rudedog///.san diego ca 92057

I would do nothing at this point. Do your cam instillation and get the bike running.You may find that after you get the bike running that every once in a while at ideal it will hickup.If so increase the low speed one size or until it stops.As for your main jet.I would increase it one size. Get it out on the highway stop and put new plugs in and run it about 15 or 20 miles.Stop and check the plug color.Light brown on the electrode would be OK. Still white to lean up one size on the main.
YOU CAN NOT DO THIS TEST AROUND TOWN.YOUR BIKE MUST BE RUNNING ON THE MAIN JET ONLY.
