Motorcycle Repair: atv starter button not working, starter button, bill silver

Hi there. My atv's starter button doesn't work. The bike starts with a screwdriver to the solenoid, but when i press the button nothing happens. I have tested with a test light and i am getting power from the wire on the contact plate to the button. If you know the problem please let me know ASAP.

Byron, knowing more about your year, make and model would have been helpful.....

Some starter circuits use the button to ground the hot lead at the handle bars, to activate the solenoid.

Some starter circuits use the starter button to complete a circuit back to the solenoid.

Are you jumping the starter at the primary coil leads or just jumping across the two big cable posts, to put battery voltage straight to the starter motor?
