Motorcycle Repair: valve adjustment, fxrs, valve adjustment

i have a standard 1340 shovel in a 1883 FXRS.what is the right adjustment procedure.i got told back off 1 3/4 turns but they were noisey.i back them off 2 flats & they sound not too bad.what is the correct adjustment.

Rotate the cylinder so the one pushrod you are working on is all the way to the bottom of the stroke. Remove the lifter and bleed it. Now install the lifter and pushrod. Turn the pushrod until it has bottomed out the lifter and then turn it back up  1 1/2 turns
