Motorcycle Repair: 2005 V-star carburetor popping, hardchrome pipes, cold air

Question
I have a 2005 yamaha 1100cc v-star. I bought it with hardchrome pipes on it, with 10,700 miles on it.  When it is cold outside (50 degrees or less) my intake/carburetor tends to "pop". Even after its been warmed up it will continue to pop.  I put the choke on 1/3 of the way while im riding and the problem lesson's but, will still have a tendency to "pop". So it tells me that its not getting enough fuel when it is cold. Are there known concerns for this problem?

Answer
The reason why it is popping is because of those pipes. The cold air is entering the hot exhaust. You can burn a valve and do engine damage if you are driving the bike in colder weather. Has the bike been jetted for the pipes??? You may want to check/try this first before anything else.
