Motorcycle Repair: starter problems, raptor atv, starter problems

when i try to start my 2001 660 raptor atv i hear the gear just spinning.Do I need a new starter? Or is it just a spring or something?

IS the battery is in good condition and completely charged? The reason I ask is if you have a bad or low battery sometimes you will just hear the starter with no engage. If the battery  is up to par and you still hear it spinning you will need to get the starter rebuilt or replaced. The 660 raptors and Rhinos did have starters go out on em.
