Motorcycle Repair: Oil leak, softtail, oil pump

I have a 2005 softtail engine basically stock in a build it your self chopper. This engine runs great but had oil that comes from the Crankcase vent when firs started & for about 15 minutes. Any suggestions on the cause?

In your oil pump there is a ball that is a check valve to keep the oil from running out the tank to the bottom end of the motor. Yours is probably weeping. remove the cap where the ball is. remove the spring. Take a pumch and a hammer and tap the ball to reseat it. If that doesnt work then you will have to remove the oil pump and lap the seat.
