Motorcycle Repair: Forks and triple trees, kawasaki ninja 600, fork seals

Question
I have a 1994 Kawasaki Ninja 600 that I am in the middle of getting back in running and riding condition. It has been sitting for over 2 years without being ridden at all. I know most if not all the fluid has leaked out of the forks. I know nothing about them and haven't been able to find any documentation about it. I haven't got a manual yet, so I'm here to ask you. first of all, are they rebuildable? and second, is the whole tube that contains the spring supposed to be full of some type of hydraulic fluid? If so, what type would I need to fill them back up? If you have any other advice about this topic I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks.

Answer
Ryan,

forks usually leak only around the fork seals
near the top of the lower tube. They are
replacable but require removing and disassembling
the forks. The fork uses about a 10 weight fork
oil or if not available, auto trans fluid will work.
Most bike shops have fork oil for sale.
Each fork takes about 455ml or 15 oz of fork fluid
when drained. If dry as in a rebuild they take
about 537ml/18oz.
If the fork spring is out and the fork is fully
compressed the oil level should be about 116mm
down from the top of the tube.
