Motorcycle Repair: 1972 Honda Cl 100- No spark, plug cap, coil wire

Question
Hey, I have a 1972 honda cl100. I am not getting any spark. I have cleaned the
points, replace the stator, and condenser, and verified that the ignition coil is
working. Could you give me any suggestions on what be causing my problem?
Also, does this bike need a battery to be able to function correctly. Thanks!

Answer
Matt,

yes, these bikes need a good battery to
get the ignition going.

-Check for battery voltage at your coil and
also see if the points spark when you
open/close them. There should be some
power at the points.

-points need about .014" gap on high part
of the points cam.
-The points need to be set so they break open with
the rotor/flywheel set on "F" mark.
but also have to be able to close fully.
Closing can be a problem if the heel
of the points set is worn.
Reduce the gap slightly to get the
points to close, or replace them.

-If you have power to the coil
and points are installed correctly
you should have some spark when the
points open.

-The points have an insulator where
the wire hooks on, the wire needs
to be insulated from ground.

-check the plug cap and coil wire.
-check kill button.
