Motorcycle Repair: r1 problem, starter solenoid, voltage meter

Question
recently my electronics wnt out and my throttle was not responding.  i have been told it might be my battery so i bought a new battery.  i bought a new battery and everything was working fine.  until later it happened again. all my electronics started to die.  i left the bike alone for a while then tried to start it up.  all my electronics came bck on but when i would try to start it it would do is make this fast clicking noise everything i tried to start it up.

Answer
It sound to me like your charging system is not working. The fast clicking you are hearing is the starter solenoid trying to engage the starter. It will make this noise if the battery voltage is not high enough. You will need to charge the battery with a charger, start the bike back up and check to see if it is charging. Before you start it check the battery voltage with the bike off. Should be somewhere around 12.4 volts or so. Then start the bike and recheck the voltage with your voltage meter like you did with it off. Should be 13.5 or higher. If it is still at the number it was with the bike off or even a lower number that charging system is not working and you will need to track it from there. The bike will run on just the battery until it becomes to low for the electronics to work (somewhere around 10.4 volts).
