Motorcycle Repair: Stator testing on 92 Yamaha XJ600SD, ac volts, motorcycle frame

Question
I need to figure out why my bike is not charging, I think it could be the stator or the voltage regulator. Do you know how to test these?

Answer
Calvin,

Make sure your battery, fuses are okay and
check for over 14 volts at 5000 rpm
on battery terminals.

-If voltage is lower find your stator connector coming
from the engine, (3 white wires) unplug it and check
the stator resistance between each and all
of the wires. Between any two wires
you should have 0.32 to 0.48 ohms.

-None of these wires should have
any connection to ground  or the
motorcycle frame.

-with a multimeter set on "AC" voltage
check the output between these 3 wires
with the bike running 4000 or higher rpm. Any two
of the wires should have over 50 "AC"
volts output.

-if the stator tests succeed, the regulator
is likely faulty unless you have
some bad wires or corroded connectors.
