Motorcycle Repair: CB160 electronic ignition, motorcycle forums, vintage motorcycle

Question
Hello, I am resurrecting a CB160 and have a set of new points in hand. Everything looks good, but I am wondering if an electronic ignition (available/advertised as aftermarket item) would be an improvement for the $250 it costs. I have replaced the R/R with an electronic unit, as the old three plate unit was toast. I am a novice with access to hands on help from a former ('70's) Honda mechanic.
Thanks, Bill

Answer
Bill,

with all the people writing to me with electronic
ignition problems, the points are starting
to sound good. The electronic units work well
without much maintenance but if you
get stuck on the road you can't
tinker with it like you can with a points setup.
The points work well if cleaned, gap set and
timing set properly.
Running wise I think there is not much difference
between the two. If you check some of the
vintage motorcycle forums online you may be
able to get some opinions of both ignitions.
Most people seem to favor electronic because
they don't like adjusting points occasionally.
I personally would use points until
none were available, I hate it when those
electronic things quit and I lose 300 bucks. :)
