Motorcycle Repair: Top-end problem with 82 Honda 750f?, low gears, intake leak

Question
Hi, I seem to have some sort of problem when crusing along at 5000 to 6000 rpm on my motorcycle. It only does it on the highway but then again thats the only time I stay at those rpms constantly. It's like the bike lags. It feels grabby like it wants to go but the exhaust starts to sputter like its not getting enough gas. When I crack the throttle it temporarily comes out of it. It seems to be doing it more and more frequently and is killing my gas mileage and performance. I think it may be doing through all the gears but Im never in low gears long enough to tell. Do you know what this might be?

Answer
Hi Chad,  Maybe old gas? Intake leak? Gummed up air filter? improperly sync'd carbs? Just a few things to look at...
Actually what i just came across oday was a guy had a fuel filter which came too close to the engine, and melted part way closed, His bike did the same thing...

Hope this helps!!
