Motorcycle Repair: motor bogging out, sl100 honda, honda bike

Question
Hi there..I have a 1972 sl100 honda bike and this bike idles great but when I open up the throttle it boggs right out but does not stall..cleaned the carb and replaced gas..any ideas..thanks

Answer
Danny,

-may bog if mainjet is plugged or needle jet above it.
-if you are sure the fuel is getting to the carb
and the float level is ok, then I would
suggest checking the air filter and the
points gap/timing, spark plug and cap.

-The points under the top left engine cover
should have about .014" gap when open and they
should just break open when the "F" mark aligns
on the flywheel rotor.
They can be cleaned up or replaced as necessary.

-Under the points plate is your ignition
advance unit, check that it's cam is free
to turn slightly when the spring weights move
outward.

-valve clearance is set to about .004" on compression.
-make sure exhaust pipe is not clogged shut.
-try new spark plug and cap, then ignition coil.
-last note, make sure carb intake or hose is not leaking
air anywhere, spray some wd40 on it, see if
engine speed changes.
