Motorcycle Repair: Ignition System, yamaha bw200, there some sort

Question
I purchased a 1986 Yamaha BW200 a few days ago...it worked when I bought it.  And not when I got home...The spark is gone, it sparks on the first revolution but not after that...I've taken out the stator and am about the check the reistances of the coils and points...I've seen a similar question on this site, so I can only assume it's a common problem...as well the rotor and stator are covered with oil, there is a hole for the oil to run from the case into the generator area...is this supposed to happen or is there some sort of rubber plug missing?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Toby,

-it is normal for some oil to be in the stator area.
The hole in the case should not be plugged.

-Make sure it is not your kill switch
that is faulty, it grounds the spark box
to kill the engine, try disconnecting it
and check for spark. Have you tried a new
spark plug?

-Other suspects are dirty or loose connectors
on the pulser coil, stator and spark control
module or a faulty pulser, stator, module.
