Motorcycle Repair: Air Filter, honda shadow, rain gear

Question
Before I ask my question, I feel I need to give you a little background first.  I have a 2006 Honda Shadow with about 3000 miles on it.  This year I took it in to the dealership for its first service which I guess was suppose to be done around 600 miles.  At this point I had no problems with the bike.  It ran fine, I was just getting ready to go on a long trip and wanted to make sure everything was taken care of.  After the initial first service I noticed that there was a wobble in the handle bars so I took it back to have them look at it.  They took the tire off and checked the pressure and balance and said everything was fine and that the problem must exist in the handle bars.  I scheduled to have the bike dropped off a week later and told then to just put it back together for now.  While putting it back together they broke my speedometer but said they would fix that for free when I brought my bike back in for the other problem.  I brought my bike back in as scheduled and they had it for about 3 days and called to say that the problem was not in the handle bars but was with the tire and that I must have been driving with low tire pressure.  I question them about this because they had taken the old tire off a week earlier and said that it was balanced fine and that the tire pressure was fine.  At this point I felt that I was being taken advantage of but just wanted my bike back so I told them to put the new tire on. I really wanted to start riding again.  I picked up my bike the next day and it ran fine all the way home(about 20 miles).  About 2 days later I was riding my bike to work when I got caught in a down pour without my rain gear so I turned the bike around and drove it home (a total of about 40 miles).  The next day I decided to try it again (I checked the weather this time) and drove it about 7 miles on back country roads where the speed limit was only about 40 miles per hour.  When I got to a road where I could go faster the bike cut out when it reached 50 miles per hour.  It had no power so I pulled it off the road and tried again.  Again at 50 miles per hour it lost power.  I did this a couple more times thinking that maybe something got wet from the rain the day before and just needed to dry off.  Finally I decided to take the bike home.  I was about 10 miles away at this point.  I kept the bike at 40 miles an hour and it made it all the way home with no problem.  I was so frustrated I ended up filing a complaint with the better business bureau.  About a week later the dealership called to schedule a time to come pick up my bike (this was part of what I wanted because of everything that had happened).  They called yesterday and said that the reason the bike was cutting out was because there was a mouse nest in my air filter.  Is this possible or are they just trying to cover there ass?

Answer
Hi Steve, It is very possible for a mouse nest to be the cause, very possible that the moisture is what possibly dislodged the nest causing it to cut off the air supply to the engine, and being at that particular speed, the engine needs more air than at an idle...
