Motorcycle Repair: engine number, suzuki katana 600, suzuki katana 600 2004

Question
Hi,

I am a first-time owner of a bike ever. I bought a Suzuki Katana 600 (2004) a few days ago. I took it to DMV but could not get the bike checked out because they could not locate the engine number on it. As I said I am a first-time owner, I need help where to look for the engine number is on the bike. Most of the bike is covered, I need to know where to unscrew parts not to take the whole bike apart. I bought it used and there was no owner's manual. Please help me locate the engine # and also give me a tip if possible where to look for an owner's manual. Thank you!!! Attila

Answer
Hi Attila,

ALL V.I.N. #'s are located in the same place. If you look in between the front forks, there is a cylindrical tube that the front end steers or pivots from, this is called the steering stem. The VIN will be located there..

The are possibly panels attached to the fairing just below the handlebars when the wheel is straight that may need to be removed to see it, but if you look hard enough maybe with a flashlight, its there.....Just not always the easiest to see..

Hope this helps!
