Motorcycle Repair: 89 FLTCU, jackshaft, steel plates

Question
I have a 89 FLTCU. My problem is, almost half the time i kill my scooter when i go to start it again the starter wont mesh with the flywheel and spin. I have to kick it in gear and rock it till the flywheel is repositioned and they mesh and then it will start. I've had a few people tell me it was a comman problem for that year model. I have researched it the best i can and asked everyone i know what it is or if there is a way to fix it or what. The rocking to start thing is getting very old cause my left leg is mostly steel plates due to a truck on bike fight i lost a year and a half ago. If you have any ideas, i would gladly try.

Answer
Not meashing is not a common problem with that year. You need to pull the primary cover and do an inspection on the jackshaft, the jackshaft bushing as well as the clutch hub gear. You probably just have wear since its an 1989.
Good luck and happy riding
