Motorcycle Repair: baffles, air fuel ratio, stock muffler

Question
QUESTION: this is kind of general...just bought a1999 suzuki Bandit 600S....its al stock but I want to improve its performance by posisbily removing the baffle...would this mes with the carbs due to it supposed to have baffle? effect sound or tune of cycle? help

ANSWER: Jaren, Usually baffles removed alone will not affect how the bike performs unless you add an aftermarket hi-flow air cleaner.

In turn, you'll need to purchase a jet kit as well to make up for the higher air flow to accomodate for less fuel and more air..
It will affect the sound, however not so much the performance..

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: ok so If I remove the baffle I have to add a jet kit to compensate for the air fuel ratio and this affects the sound? I got stock so trying to make it sound better and run better if I can....how the baffle comeoff??

Answer
Its usually NOT an easy job trying to remove a baffle from a stock muffler so be careful you dont ruin your pipe. Some come out easy, others are a real pain.

If you install a hi-flow air cleaner, THEN you you will need a jet kit, otherwise all removing the baffle will do is make your exaust louder.
Without seeing the muffler i im sorry i wont be able to tell you how to remove the baffle..

Hope this helps!!
