Motorcycle Repair: longer forks on FXSTC, fxstc, best bet

Question
I want to put longer forks on my stock FXSTC model year 1999. Mostly because of style, but also because I have heard that would make a better ride. Maybe 8" over. Can I just do this, or do I have to change the triple tree to one with a different rake? And what rake would that be?
Thanks for your time
Karl

Answer
the longer you move the forks out the better the bike rides straight, but is worse in turns. The opposite is true if you shorten them.
For what you want to do, you will have to do some measuring to determine what rake you want and length you want.Your best bet is to jack the bike up and withy a protractor add rake and then measure the length you need.
Good luck and happy riding
