Motorcycle Repair: kickstarter, honda minitrail, clutch springs

Question
i own a few old honda minitrail's (z50's and ct70's.) occasionally the kickstarter feels spongy as if the oil is thick, but it also occurs when engine is hot. is this normal? it happens with all my bikes.thanks!

Answer
Gary,

That mushy feel is a common trait on those clutches.
It may be clutch slip or weak clutch springs,
but it seems like it happens often.
You can try adjusting the clutch like this:
-Loosen the adjuster lock nut.
-Turn the clutch adjuster clockwise one turn.
-Slowly turn the adjuster counterclockwise until
a slight resistance is felt.
-From this position, turn the adjuster clockwise 1/8 turn,
and tighten the lock nut.
I think there may be some heavier duty clutch
springs available aftermarket, try searching online.
If the bikes are starting and driving okay, I wouldn't
worry about it too much.
