Motorcycle Repair: Honda Nighthawk Whoes, honda nighthawk, turn signals

Question
Okay, I bought a nighthawk from a coworker I put a battery in it and it started right up. A little ruff because it had sat for a year or so but stronger and stronger as you let it run(but never perfect). I had to replace a turn signal and the wires weren't the same color. So I played the quessing game. On my first attempt every thing seemed pretty much okay but not quite right but good enough to get it home. It was rode home about 3 miles and parked. I started it a few time to show people it ran that day and then rolled it in to its spot.  The next day I started it for another friend but had the throttle stuck good and open it reved high I quickly turned the throttle down and turned it off.  I tried to start it again but it would start, sputter and die.  The next day after a rain fall I go to start it and nothing, no lights no start, nada. I figured out it was the soliniod fuse and replaced with an inline block fuse. That fixed that problem. I also futzed with turn signals when I notice they weren't blinking any more. I wired the signal to were I felt it is proper but they all still don't blink.  Did I fry a relay?  Also, it would still not run, just start, sputter and die. I changed the plugs thinking I maybe fouled them, nope didn't work.  Oh yeah my choke doesn't work but it ran fine before with the same problem.  What did I do, how do I fix it.  Is it simply a carb rebuild solution or should I look electrical.  The only wires I have messed with is The three turn signals wires The original are, green, blue, and white that connected into a blue-white stripe.  The new one has red, black and black-white stripe. I believe but am not positive that I have the black-white into a single conector and the other two to shared connectors with the other signal.  The configuration that I have currently alows me to turn each signal side on and off but they do not blink.  I know I need to get a manual and am currently bidding on an official shop manual but in the mean time my you know. I apoligize if this was to long of a message but I know that the more info the better so I hope you can help me. Thanks.

Answer
John,
I don't know where to start, is the battery good
and fully charged?
-If your signals come on when you push the switch
but don't flash, then either the flasher is defective
or the bulbs may be the wrong watts. Make sure the
bulb sockets are not corroded.

-If the bike sat with fuel in the carbs
for a year, the carbs could be very corroded or
varnished. I would start with checking the fuel
supply from the tank to the carbs.

-Most gas taps are vacuum operated, they open
when the engine is starting. Should be a small
hose that allows fuel to flow when vacuum is applied.
The gas tap or petcock valve may be plugged.
See if gas flows freely to carbs,
you may be able to open the drain screw
on the carbs to see.

-try some carb cleaner or wd40 in the carb intake,
see if the bike fires on it.

-pull a spark plug, check for spark.

-you may have to pull and clean the carbs if
it won't stay running.

-fix the sticking throttle, it will be hard
to start with the throttle open.
