Motorcycle Repair: 56 kh, head bolts, upper cylinder

Question
hi mike, could you tell me what the tappets should be set at on a 56 kh with khk cams. also could you tell me what to torque the head bolts to. this motor is fresh and seems to oil the cylinders a lot. it smokes a bit till it warms up and if i take the heads off, there is more oil on the upper cylinder area than i'm used to seeing. the oil pump is scavaging well and the breather is breathing. the motor runs quiet, every thing inside the motor is new. i can't hear any piston slap even when the motor is cold but i wonder about the piston to cylinder clearance, i've never measured it but if i put my fingers on the top of the piston and rock it in the bore, it seems loose compared to other engines i've worked on. thanks mike for any help you can give me. joe

Answer
When the valve is all the way at the bottom the tappet should just be touching the valve.
Torgue for the heads is as tight as you can get it.
If you have that much play in the piston I would remove them and mic them to see what the clearence is. If it is smoking you might have to much clearence.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
