Motorcycle Repair: non running, kawasaki ke, bike engines

Question
I have a non-running Kawasaki KE 125 late 1970's early 1980's and I don't really know a lot about dirt bike engines so I can't get it running. What would you try to do to get it running if you owned it?

Answer
John,

-first thing is see if it has compression,
otherwise the engine needs a rebuild.
Two strokes can run with about 90 psi.

-The gas tank should be cleaned and make
sure the gas tap or petcock is allowing
fuel to flow freely.

-carb should be soaked in carb cleaner
and check the jets physically to make
sure they are clean.
-The carb will be in the side cover as these
engines have a  rotary intake valve.

-the points are in the other engine side cover
and should be cleaned and set to open
when the marks on the flywheel line up
with the mark on the engine case.
May need a flywheel puller.

-so basically clean the fuel system,
check the points and adjust timing.
Clean the air filter and new spark plug.
Give it a general checkover for loose wires or
bolts. Change the transmission oil.
