Motorcycle Repair: Removal of GN250 Stator, case screws, screw extractor

Question
So I've tracked my charging issues down to the stator, and have pulled off the
lefthand side engine cover, and disconnected the wiring. But I just can not
seem to remove the stator from the case.

The outside of the case is a little damaged, where it appears a previous
owner/mechanic has attempted to 'unscrew' the large 'screwhead' in the
outside of the case.

Can you advise how to remove the stator for replacement?

Cheers - Giles, New Zealand.

Answer
Giles,
do you have the case off? If not you have
to remove the sprocket cover, all the case
screws and wire connectors as you mentioned.
The case pulls straight off as the stator
fits inside the magneto rotor. When you
have the case off, the stator is held
on with screws for which you will probably
need an impact type driver to loosen.
The kind where you hit the end with a hammer
and it turns the screw.
The magneto is held on with a nut and is on a
key. If you decide to remove it you will
likely need a flywheel puller.
If the stator screws are stripped too badly
for the impact tool, you will have
to use a chisel or drill them for
a screw extractor tool.
