Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Maxim 750 81, yamaha maxim, directional signals

Question
Any advice on the control center on these ?  It says BATTERY on the vertical panel and the Warning Light comes on when I start it up each time.  The headlight went out so no night riding.  I checked the fuses, looked fine.  Put in a new headlight, still nothing.  The directional signals, brake light, neutral indicator are all working.  No fluid leaking anywhere.  Checked the oil it is fine.  Seems like a wiring connection issue ?  Maybe from the battery (why it is indicated in the control panel) and a ground ?  I am a DIY'R to a point but don't mess with it past my knowledge.  Time for a mechanic ????   Thanks for your time Bill.

Answer
Michael, My very limited knowledge of Yamahas is that there are more than just wiring connections to check on these bikes. Yamaha likes to put all kinds of modules in their circuitry to monitor many functions. Some early batteries had a special sensor that screwed into the battery to monitor either fluid level or battery voltage.
At times, wiring problems can be traced to poor grounding of the harness, cables or connectors. What you need is a shop manual or wiring diagram, like the one below.
