Question
Dual sport 1995 Honda xr250 .It appears all the parts are there, after looking it up on Babbits online. The plastic gear, bushing does not come in contact with the wheel bearing to spin the speedometer cable?Have you heard of this type of issue before? It quit working at 775 miles??I just purchased bike.Thanks......

Answer
Ken,

try bikebandit.com or StarCity for parts diagrams.

the wheel usually has like a flange or notches
in it that catches the metal retainer on the
outside of the plastic gear. This turns the gear
which turns the plastic gear on the speedo cable.
If the metal tabs are bent or either of the
plastic gears are worn, the speedo won't turn.
I suspect something is broke, worn or bent.
The teeth on the plastic gears can be deceiving.
Try turning the lower assy and see if the cable
is turning okay without slipping.
Then check that the metal tabs are ok and lining up
with the wheel on reassembly.
