Motorcycle Repair: starter removel, clutch basket, starter button

Question
I have a 2000 Indian with the S&S motor and I need to replace the starter, I have 12 volts to the starter and the small wire is powered when the starter button is pushed. Therefore I guess I need to pull the starter and replace it. How much trouble is it going to be?

Answer
Disconnect the battery. The starter is bolted to the back of the inner primary, so remove the bolts and the wires to the starter. Remove the primary cover, clutch basket, motor sprocket and chain. Then remove the jackshaft. Once that is all done the starter will slide out
Good luck and happy riding
