Motorcycle Repair: 1999 Drive Belt, spocket, softail standard

Question
What is the big mystery in ajusting drive belt ? Tried asking my local HD Dealer and they just said I needed to bring it in and have them do it. Well to start off I haven't replaced it yet but taking it off doesn't seem to be a big problem(will most likely replace both front and rear spocket also)But till I find out how to aline the belt I don't care to touch it yet and bike is running great. But I no within time it will need to be changed. The bike is a 1999 softail standard with 23k miles .

Answer
You need a adjuster for the belt. What the adjuster does is put 10 lbs of pressure on the belt from the bottom. It should have 3/8 in flex at 10 lbs of pressure. If not then adjust the belt from the adjusters on the swinging arm. Measure the length of each adjuster so that they are equal
Good luck and happy riding
