Motorcycle Repair: 77 Sportster front brake caliper, front brake caliper, harley service

I wanted to know if my 77 sportster has bushings or shims on the front brake caliper?  I was in an accident where my front brake locked up and fell off.  I was told by some buddies that I was missing the bushings/shims from the caliper.  I was then told by another buddy that the 77 sportster did not have bushings.  THe caliper is pretty lose is that normal?  Also could you tell me where I can get a diagram that shows how to check this out and put back together if need to?

There are no bushings or shims in your caliber. However, there are a couple of lineup pins that are probably worn as well as the location that they go in, in the caliber. this would cause the wobble int he caliber.
You can get a diagram in a Harley service manual. You can order one from a dealer
