Motorcycle Repair: 82 suzuki gs650, new spark, fuel shortage

Question
I'm having a problem with my bike not running properly
When i got it it was not running so i removed the carbs and gave them a thorough cleaning and when i installed them the bike started and idled.  The problem is when i try to rev it up it dogs out at around 3 grand i didn't install the air cleaner so i could work on them any ideas?

Answer
Adam,
I would start with new spark plugs unless you know
they are good. Does the bike run better with partial choke or not? Can you run it under load around 3000 rpm,
then kill the engine quickly, do a spark plug
reading. See if it is black = rich fuel/air or
light colored = lean fuel/air.
It sounds like a fuel shortage but a failing
ignition pulser can act up as it warms up.
Have you checked the flow of fuel from the gas
tank? Were the main jets removed and physically
cleaned?
