Motorcycle Repair: honda kickstart, v twins, engine case

Question
I have a 1976 honda cj360t. I am trying to replace the kickstart shaft since it broke completely off. I pulled off the right side cover and am now lost. I hope you can tell me what I have to do to replace the shaft. Looks to me like I have to pull the engine out and split it or something. I'm used to v-twins so this is all new to me. Hope you can help. Thanks!

Answer
Joel,
the kickstart shaft and gears are held in by circlips
on the inside of the case. The lower engine
case has to be removed to access it. I would
suggest getting a shop manual if you attempt
it yourself. A bit of work, but can be done
if you have the time.
