Motorcycle Repair: Rear brake light, yamaha virago 750, brake light switch

Recently my brother in law dropped my bike (1989 Yamaha Virago 750) and broke the brake foot pedal.  He replaced it but now the brake light only comes on when the front brake is engaged.  Everything looks like it is hooked up correctly, any ideas

Joe,
Check for 12 volts at the rear brake light switch,
down near the brake pedal. Should be brown and
yellow wires. The switch may just need adjusting
or may be faulty. You can remove it and manually
pull it on/off to see if the brake light comes on.
If no power, check your wiring, connectors,fuses.
