Motorcycle Repair: 1986 radian, vacuum leaks, engine speed

Question
I recently bought a 1986 radian. I can get it to start and idle, but when i grab the throttle, it wants to stay reved up to about 4000 rpm. Not sure why but maybe you can help me. Thanks

Answer
Hi Jeff,

Check carburetor synchronization and adjust accordingly. If the carbs are out of synch, an irratic idle is one of the symptoms.

Check for vacuum leaks around the carbs and manifolds. Vacuum leaks may cause high, irratic engine speed as described.
