Motorcycle Repair: Hyd Lifters, pushrods, pushrod

I have a 1981 FLT and would like to know what the correct way to set the pushrods, I think you need to bleed the lifters and then adjust the pushrods till they are just loose with no play, but I could be wrong. Thank you for your Help. Michael

If you have hydrolic lifters then remove the hydrolic unit. At the bottom of it you will see a small hole. Stick a pice of wire in it and pump the unit. This will collapce the unit and get the oil out. reinstall them. Now rotote the motor so that the front exhaust lifter is all the say down. Install the pushrod and lengthen it until you just have freeplay in it where you can turn it with your fingers and then back it off about 1/2 turn and its set. Do this for each one.
