Motorcycle Repair: 1988 FLHTC Clutch Cable, clutch cables, clutch lever

Question
Dear Mike,
I just purchased a 1988 FLHTC with 19,000 miles and was told it needs a new clutch cable because there is no play and it is a little hard to pull in(I can pull it in with 2 fingers). Otherwise, it works fine. The previous owner only put 5 miles on it last year but it was well maintained. I figured it just needs to be adjusted but there is no external adjustment and I was also told it couldn't be adjusted, it had to be replaced. Can you tell me if this is true? Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Eric

Answer
Yes it can be adjusted. All Harley clutch cables have adjustments. Ther should be only about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever. Follow the cable from the clutch lever down to the trans and about half way you will see a rubber boot. Under it you will find the adjuster
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
