Motorcycle Repair: Honda GL1100 signal lights, honda gl1100, light dims

Question
The turn signal lights on my 1983 GL1100 are not working.  Horn, headlight, radio, etc all work fine.  Fuse checks out OK.  When signal is switched on, the running light dims but no signal.  I have taken apart the signaling unit on the handlebars and it doesn't appear to be corroded (I haven't completely disassembled it yet). What else needs to be checked out.  I have a volt/amp meter but am not sure what to look for.

Answer
David,
Look under your left tank cover for the flasher.
It is square with a couple of wires on it.
See if it has 12v power to it. One side has power
and the other wire goes to the signal switch and then
to the signal lights.
If it is faulty there will be no juice to your
signal switch. Check battery and all connectors.
You can bypass the flasher and check for 12v
at your signal switch. Just jumper the two flasher
connection wires.
