Motorcycle Repair: CRANKCASE BREATHER, crankcase breather, frame tube

Question
Hi I recently bought a after market air cleaner for a 93 FXSTC and did not connect a CRANKCASE breather kit to the engine I have rode it about a 100 miles do you think I have done any damage to the motor and can you recommend a breather kit to install? Thank you. Rob

Answer
Rob,
I would recommend installing a breather kit,
I don't think it's done any damage but it
is good to filter the breather. You can route
breather fumes back into the air filter or
the not so legal method of running a hose
down the frame tube and tying it there with
a small filter on the end.
Most generic breather kits will work and are alot
cheaper to buy, like this one:
V-Twin Manufacturing (p/n 31-0434)- Cheap and Effective.
You can get fancy braided lines etc. but they cost
more and basically do the same job.
The breather kit includes the fittings to go on the
engine head and the special bolts. You may need to
find a filter separately, it is like a little air filter.
I have seen guys using a car fuel filter instead.
