Motorcycle Repair: 1969 Honda CT90, areon, valve clearance

Question
I have a 69 ct90, it run fine, until i put it in gear. Then it acts like the brake are on. I can put it on the center stand & run it in all the gears. Then sometimes (not often) i can drive it around the block with no problem. Stop & try to go again,it just bogg down like the brakes areon, but it rolls fine.Help please.

Answer
Glenn,
it sounds to me like it may be low on power.
Does it seem to have good compression?
You may need to check that fuel is coming
from the gas tank to the carb and then clean
the carb jets. Also the ignition timing should be checked.
The points should open when the "F" mark lines up with
the mark on the engine.
Have you checked the air filter? Valve clearance
should be around .002"-.004".
If it is rolling and running okay on the stand,
I suspect some tuning problem that only shows up
when it's running under load.
Have you tried backing the brakes off a bit, just in case.:)
