Motorcycle Repair: Bleeding fluid, clutch master, air bubbles

Question
i have a 1990 zx7 and it was leaking fluid for about a week or so and i started the and it started fine, but the clutch was real soft and i went to kick it to first and it stalled. it is a hydolic cluch, i was told to bleed the fluid and refill it. is this true and if so how do i where and how do i go ahead and do it. thank you

Answer
John,
if the clutch master or slave cylinder was leaking
it probably needs repair or replacement or the
fluid will just leak out again.
If you want to try to bleed it, keep the
fluid topped up and pump the lever a few times
and hold. Then down on the engine where the hose leads
there is a slave cylinder that has a bleed screw.
You open this screw anti-clockwise and allow
any air to escape, then close it again.
You repeat this process until the lever feels
solid and the air is out. Don't release the lever
until you have closed the bleeder screw, each time
or it may pull air back in. You can put a small hose
on the bleeder screw and stick it in some brake fluid
to prevent air bubbles. Try not to get fluid on your
paint, it may damage it.
