Motorcycle Repair: Bleeding Brakes, honda magna 750, brake caliper

Question
Hi,

I have a 97 Honda Magna 750 which is getting a new master cylinder for the front brake.  I feel comfortable hooking it up, but I lost the general manual which contains info on how to bleed the brake system.  I haven't done it before so I'm pretty much in the dark.  I need it pretty much at a novice level because I honestly don't even know where I'm supposed to add the brake fluid.  I'm guessing up at the master cylinder but just not sure.  Your advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Nathan

Answer
Nathan,
keep the master cylinder topped up with fluid as
you bleed the lines. You can hook a small tube
onto the bleed screw on the brake caliper.
Stick the end into a jar for the fluid to run into.
Pump the brake lever a few times and hold it.
Turn the bleeder screw anti-clockwise to open it
slightly and allow the pressure to subside and air
to be released, close it before letting go of the
brake lever. It might help to have somebody on the
lever while you work on the bleeder screw.
Repeat this process, pump and hold the lever, open the screw, close the screw, then release the lever.
If the fluid goes down in the master cylinder, top it up.
You are trying to avoid getting any air in the system.
Some air will work it's way out the top if you
just tap the brake lever a tiny bit.
It might take awhile to get the air out and the lever
feeling solid. If you make a mistake just repeat the
process. Try not to get brake fluid on any paint etc.
