Motorcycle Repair: sportster problems, new bikes, loose wires

Question
a friend brought his 03 1200 sportster over with a intermittent problem with the ignition . he claims it will start running on the front cylinder after getting hot.. I have gone through the bike looking for loose wires etc.. and have ridden it on two occasions not being able to duplicate the problem. it has a new coil on it the he installed.. i don't know if possibly the ignition module is causing intermittent problems after getting hot.. is that a possible problem.?

Answer
It is possible.  It's usually the pickup first before the module.  Coils rarely go bad on the new bikes.  Did you put a new set of spark plugs in or check the color?  You can also try an in-line spark checker that attaches to the plug to make sure it's not firing when the problem occurs.
