Motorcycle Repair: Goldwing 06 1800, straight teeth, amsoil products

Question
Do I have to live with the constant whine from the engine?  It whines after starting and gets louder as I increase engine rpm.  I have been told that "all Wings whine".  I also have been told that the problem is from the alternator or straight cut gears in transmission.

Answer
Hi Warren,

Reference Helical cut gears:

The angled teeth engage more gradually than do spur gear (straight) teeth. This causes helical gears to run more smoothly and quietly than spur gears.

Unfortunately, most GL's whine as described. Some GL owners report that using synthetic oils helps quiet the whine sound.

I use and recommend AMSOIL products. "www.amsoil.com"
