Motorcycle Repair: adjusting clutch/cable, clutch lever, clutch cable

Question
I bought a 2004 HD 883 Sportster. The clutch seems soft or sloppy, and I'd like to adjust it to make taking off a little easier than it currently is.....But I don't know what to do. I'm told that some adjustment can be made at/in the cable assembly and to further adjust (if necessary) I could follow the cable to the clutch.Take off a cover and make further adjustments there. Any Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Locate teh adjuster in the cable. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster until you have about 1/8 play in the clutch lever.
If that doesnt help then you can adjust the clutch itself. remove the clutch cover. Put some slack in the cable doing what I said above. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster outward. Now turn it inward until it seats and then back outward about 1/8 turn. Tighten the locknut. Now adust the cable
Good luck and happy riding
