Motorcycle Repair: 883 carb jetting, air fuel mixture, hypercharger

Question
I recently put a kuryakyn pro-series hypercharger on my '97 883 and used the dynojet kit to rejet and drilled the vacuum port and replaced the spring and needle with 3 washers.  I have re-tried a series of jets and right now I have a 42 and 180.  The 45 seemed to make a dark oil or gas on the plugs, even when I adjusted the idle mix, so I went back to 42 and cleaned the plugs.  The bike seems to be doing okay with the current jets.  The acceleration seems a little poor when I first shift into the next gear.  Also, when I run the bike for many miles, and hit the kill switch it will try to turn over so I was scared of overheating. I got an oil temp gauge and it reads about 150. The plugs are white after riding so I figured the 180 jet was right. I think I have the idle mix screw set right (about 2 out), but the exhaust sure smells gassy.  If I turn it in much more the carb pops when I throttle, and I think is the cause for hesitation and popping during the first mile when the bike is cold. I think I have the idle speed set right, but I am going by sound because I don't have an rpm gauge.  The main thing is that I am scared of running lean because the hypercharger is so large. I bought it for looks and performance. Could the pro-hypercharger be too much for an 883?  Is it possible to have too much air and gas mix entering the chamber?  Does this cause the engine to wear out faster?

Answer
Your plugs should be a tan color, not white so you are running a little lean.
You need to reset the air/fuel mixute out to 3 turns. That screw only adjusts the air/fuel mixture at idle and not at any other time.
Go back to the 45 jet and keep the 180 main jet and run the bike for a while.
Also, make sure you are using high test gas
Good luck and happy riding
