Motorcycle Repair: 1975 sporty sputters, sportster chopper, straight pipes

Question
QUESTION: Well, the weather finally got nice here in PA.  I went for a ride on the 1975 sportster chopper I bought in the winter, and it was a pretty short ride.  As the bike got hot, maybe after 5 minutes of riding, it started to buck, and sputter, then it stalled.  If I let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes it will restart and do it all over again.  Not sure of engine work prior to my ownership.  It does have straight pipes and an S&S shorty "e" carb.  Proper jets as far as your guidance from a previous question.  It was suggested to me by a local mechanic to convert to electronic ignition instead of points.  What do you think?

Answer
I would first start by making sure you have a good gas flow to the carb from the tank. Your petcock might be plugged up. If that is ok, then I would replace the points and condencer. I agree with the mech that you should go with a electrinic ignition. No more worry about changing the points. If you go electronic, remember you have to change the coil also. the one for points has to many OHMs for the electronic ignition.
